The Peter Wilhelm Art Center is the continuation of the earlier Peter Wilhelm Art Projects, also initiated by Peter Wilhelm. The Art Projects started in November 2007 as a series of art exhibitions organized in several venues. The exhibitions arranged by the Peter Wilhelm Art Projects:
Hommage á Zoltán Szalai November 16, 2007 – December 2, 2007 With this exhibition we commemorated Zoltán Szalai the highly influential art teacher whose caring attention shaped a whole generation of students into artists. A significant number of contemporary painters had him to thank for their start. His name is mainly attached by posterity to his book written to help instruction in drawing under the title “A kockától az aktig” (From cubes to nudes).
Sári Gerlóczy– “Társas mező” (c. Social Field) December 7, 2007 – January 7, 2008 The exhibition where the latest works of Sári Gerlóczy were shown was opened by Péter Popper on the 7th December. The title of the exhibition “Társas mező” had been borrowed by the lady painter from Ferenc Mérei’s book entitled “A közösségek rejtett hálózata” (The hidden network of communities).
Barbara Sipos and Marica Sipos – “Tartályok és plüssmackók” (Containers and plush teddy-bears) March 20, 2008 – April 6, 2008 At the beginning of the 1990s two Tatabánya-born young girls departed for Budapest to begin their higher education studies of the fine arts: the Sipos sisters, Marica and Barbara. This joint exhibition was an important milestone in their development.
Anya (Mother) April 15, 2008 – May 3, 2008 Motherhood is a phenomenon of many aspects. We showed works — selected by art historian Katalin S. Nagy — connected on many sides to this subject by artists who do not mystify the possibilities of interpretation for whom life and art are inseparable whose creativity is a natural ability.
In the shadow of the Holocaust: Israeli artists “Második generáció” (The second generation) An exhibition of contemporary Israeli artists May 7, 2008 – May 30, 2008 In recent years increasing interest has emerged in Israeli art in the Holocaust. Many of the artists dealing with this subject are the children of Holocaust survivors who played a central role in the culture and arts of Israel.
